Our signature farmer hat. The wide brim is two layers of hemp with a wire sewn into the edge, so you can bend it up, down or into a wave and it stays put. The edge is frayed by hand, the crown has a soft cotton lining, and it folds into a bag. Made in Kathmandu, Nepal, in sizes M to XXL.

How do I choose my size?
Measure around your head just above your ears, where the hat will sit. M fits heads up to 58.5 cm (23 in), L up to 61.5 cm (24¼ in), and XL/XXL up to 64 cm (25⅛ in). There's no drawstring inside, so the hat opening has to be a little bigger than your head. Between two sizes? Take the bigger one.
How do I shape the brim?
Just bend it. The wire runs all the way around the edge, so you can flip the front up, pull the sides down against low sun, or give the whole brim a wave. It holds that shape until you change it again.
Can I fold it for travel?
Yes. Fold it in half or roll it, and put it in a suitcase, backpack or beach bag. When you take it out, push the crown back out from the inside and bend the brim into shape.
My hat arrived creased. What do I do?
That's normal for a soft hat packed for shipping. Mist the creases with plain water, stuff a balled-up T-shirt into the crown, shape the brim and let it dry. New hemp can also smell a little earthy; a day in fresh air takes care of that.
What can I wear it with?
It's a garden and farm hat first. It's also the hat in half the costumes on our Halloween page: scarecrow, farmer, Tom Sawyer. After that, it goes back to the garden.

Is there metal in the brim?
Yes, a thin wire is sewn into the brim edge. That's what lets you shape it.
Is the frayed hemp hat waterproof or UV rated?
Neither. It's a hemp fabric sun hat with no UPF rating. The wide brim gives shade and light rain won't hurt it.
Is it for men or women?
Both. Pick your size by head measurement, not by gender.
Why does a new hemp hat smell?
Hemp is a natural fibre and can smell earthy when new. Leave the hat outside for a day and it fades.
