What is Gheri cotton?
Gheri is a thick, striped cotton cloth handwoven in Nepal. If you've seen a Nepali poncho or a Baja-style hoodie at a festival, with bold stripes and a slightly rough, cosy hand, there's a good chance it was Gheri. We use it for our extra long ponchos and as the bright stripe on our hemp wallets.

What does Gheri cotton feel like?
Heavier and thicker than a T-shirt or a pair of jeans, with a soft, slightly textured surface from the loom. It's warm without being bulky, and it gets softer with every wash.
How is it made?
It's woven on looms in Nepal, usually in long runs of colourful stripes. Because it's made in small batches, the stripes and shades change a little from one run to the next, so two ponchos from the same colour family are rarely identical.
What is it used for?
Ponchos and Baja hoodies most of all, because it's warm enough for a cold night at a campfire and soft enough to sleep in. It's also used for bags, jackets and trims. On our Gheri stripe wallet, a band of it adds colour to plain hemp fabric.
How do I wash Gheri cotton?
Gentle machine wash in cold water and hang it to dry. Iron on low if you need to. Skip the dryer: heat can shrink cotton and fade the stripes.
