What is yak wool?
It's the soft under-hair of yaks, the long-haired cattle that live high in the Himalayas. It's what keeps them warm through a mountain winter, and it feels a lot like cashmere.
How do people use it?
As a shawl in a cold office, a wrap for morning meditation, a scarf, or a blanket on planes and trains. It folds down small enough to carry.
Questions
Questions people ask
Is the yak wool shawl itchy?
Yak wool is softer than most sheep's wool. If you're very sensitive to wool, wear it over a layer.
How do I wash it?
Hand wash in cold water with mild soap and dry it flat.
